How to write your marketing resume
Marketing is judged on outcomes, so attach a number the business tracked to each campaign, channel or launch you list: qualified leads, conversion rate, cost per acquisition, return on ad spend, organic traffic or pipeline influenced, and say which part was yours when a team shared the work. Content, social and creative roles benefit from a portfolio or case-study link near your name.
Next, name the marketing channels you've owned (paid search, paid social, email, SEO, events) and the platforms you ran them in, such as Google Ads, Google Analytics, HubSpot or Salesforce. For management roles, the BLS says advertising, promotions and marketing managers usually need a bachelor's in marketing, business or communications, plus experience in a marketing, advertising or sales job. Certifications are optional but can back up tool skills: Google Ads certifications from Skillshop, or the American Marketing Association's Professional Certified Marketer credential in digital marketing, content marketing or marketing management.
Early-career marketers can count internship campaigns, class projects or a blog or channel they grew. Example bullet: "Cut paid search cost per lead 14% over two quarters by rebuilding campaigns around high-intent keywords."
Which skills belong on a marketing resume, and how do I back them up?
Sort them the way marketing teams divide the work: channels you've run, such as email, paid search or social; tools you could open on day one, like an analytics suite, a CRM or an ad manager; and measurement skills, such as setting up conversion tracking, building a dashboard or reading an A/B test. Then back each group with a bullet elsewhere on the page, so "email marketing" turns up as a nurture sequence you built and the conversion rate it reached. Where it's honest, borrow the posting's term: retention emails you ran count as lifecycle marketing. Compare the Growth Manager examples.
How do I write sales achievements on a resume?
Use numbers a sales leader already tracks: quota and the percent you attained, your rank on the team, revenue or new accounts closed, average deal size and sales cycle. Give each bullet a time frame and a comparison, as in "Reached 118% of a $1.2M annual quota in 2025, second of 14 reps." If you booked meetings rather than closing deals, count the meetings and how many became pipeline. Keep to figures you could back up with a report or a review, because an interviewer may ask how you got them.
How do I show AI skills on a marketing resume?
Name the task, the tool and the result, as you would for any marketing skill. "Used AI" tells a hiring manager nothing; "drafted 40 product descriptions a week with an AI writing tool, then edited each for brand voice and accuracy" shows speed and judgment together. Add the checks you ran, such as fact review, legal sign-off or an A/B test of AI-assisted copy against the team's own, and any rules you followed for customer data. If AI features sit inside your ad, analytics or email platforms, mention them beside those platforms.
I started as an appointment setter. How do I present the climb into sales management?
Give each title a bigger number to own. Appointment Setter: meetings booked and show rate. Inside Sales Representative: your own quota. Sales Manager: the team's attainment and the reps you hired or coached. Zonal Sales Manager: several territories and their managers. Chief Commercial Officer: revenue, pricing and the sales and marketing teams together. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says employers usually prefer several years of sales experience for sales managers, so keep the dates visible and let readers see how long you carried a quota before you led people who do.
