How to write your arts & entertainment resume

Think of a performer's resume as a list of credits. Group credits by medium (stage, film, television, concert) and give each one the production, your role and the company, venue or director. If you belong to Actors' Equity or SAG-AFTRA (unions O*NET lists for actors), put that beside your name so it's clear which contracts you can work under. For auditions, keep it to one page that fits the back of an 8x10 headshot.

Crew resumes use the same credit structure with a different emphasis: department, position, production and the equipment you run, such as dollies, jibs or lighting consoles. Under the credits, list training (programs, studios, teachers) and special skills like dialects, instruments, dance styles or stage combat, leaving off anything you couldn't do on request.

As the BLS notes, acting jobs usually last from 1 day to a few months and actors may have stretches without work between roles, so list credits without dates. Useful numbers include performance counts, run length, tour stops, crew size and shooting days. For example: "Performed 72 shows on a six-city regional tour as an ensemble member and swing, covering four tracks on short notice."

  • How do I make an acting resume with no experience?

Use the standard credits layout for an Actor resume and fill it from work you've actually done: school plays, community theater, student films and staged readings, listing the show, the part you played and who produced it. Call a background role what it was; a credit list that matches your reel is easier to trust. At this stage your training carries the most weight, so name classes, workshops, coaches and any degree program, newest first. If you've booked commercials, one line, "List available upon request," avoids naming brands a casting office could read as conflicts; if you haven't, leave that heading off. Finish with special skills you could perform in the room today.

  • How do I make a resume for voice acting?

Put your demo links at the top of a Voice Actor resume, one per genre you book, such as commercial, animation, narration or video games. List credits by project and client with the character or read type, like "Spokesperson, regional bank radio spot." If you record from home, give casting teams one line on your studio: microphone, interface, treated booth and whether you can join a live directed session. Add audiobook titles with the publisher, accents or languages you can hold for a full session, and any voice coaching you've had.

  • How do I make a dance resume?

Head a Dancer resume with your name, contact details, height and a link to your reel. Group performance credits by type, such as concert dance, musical theater, commercial and competition, naming the company or production, the choreographer and your role. Training carries real weight for dancers, so give each style its own line with the schools, intensives or teachers behind it, keeping ballet, jazz and hip-hop separate instead of blending them. Note roles you understudied or swung and any choreography of your own. If you teach, add a section with the age groups and levels you've taught.

  • How do I write a music resume?

Open with what a music director hires for, your voice type or instrument, then the ensembles, roles or services you've performed, each with the director, venue and season. A Choir Singer resume might add sight-reading level and the largest works sung, while a Professional Singer leans on solo bookings, recordings and a short repertoire list by language and style. Church musicians name weekly services and the choirs they lead. If you teach, as a Vocal Coach does, list student levels and the recitals you prepared them for. Link audio or video where a director can hear you within the first minute.
