Architecture resume guide
If you're on the path to an architect's license, put your status near the top in the profession's own shorthand: "Licensed Architect (Oregon)" or "AXP hours complete; 4 of 6 ARE divisions passed."

How to write your architecture resume
All states and the District of Columbia require architects to be licensed; all U.S. jurisdictions require passing the six divisions of NCARB's Architect Registration Examination, and most licensing boards also require its Architectural Experience Program. Landscape architects can show progress on CLARB's four-section L.A.R.E. the same way.
For each role, name the building types, the square footage or construction value, and the phases you carried, from schematic design through construction administration. Say which software produced your drawings, such as Revit, AutoCAD or Rhino, and add a LEED Green Associate or LEED AP credential from the U.S. Green Building Council if sustainable design is part of the job. Put your portfolio link in the header, make each project in it match a resume entry, and state your role on team projects plainly.
For example: "Produced Revit construction documents for a 48,000-square-foot school addition and coordinated structural and MEP consultants through two rounds of permit comments."
Put this guide to work
How do I put EIT on a resume?
List it in a Certifications line near the top of a Civil Engineer resume, the way your state issued it: "EIT, California, 2025." The certificate follows the FE exam, and California's board calls EIT certification optional, so if you passed the FE but didn't apply, write "Passed FE exam (Civil), 2025" instead. Don't word it as a license: Maryland's board says an EIT certificate is not a P.E. license and grants no privileges to practice engineering. Then add when you expect to sit for the PE exam; NCEES notes that most states want four years of progressive, verifiable experience before licensure.
How do I list NCIDQ on an interior design resume?
Once certified, write "NCIDQ Certified" with your certificate number in the header or a Certifications line, and add any state registration beside it. Partway through, list the sections you've passed. CIDQ splits the exam into IDFX, open to final-year students and recent graduates, and IDPX and IDIX, which open once your education and work experience are complete, so "IDFX passed 2025; IDPX and IDIX scheduled" tells a firm hiring an Interior Design Project Manager where you stand. It also matters for registration: CIDQ's chart of regulated jurisdictions in North America, current as of August 2025, says all of them require NCIDQ Certification except California.
How do I add AutoCAD experience to a resume?
On a CAD Draftsman resume, show what you produced with it rather than listing the program alone: the drawing types (floor plans, sections, details, site plans), the share of each set you drafted, and how you worked to an office standard with layers, blocks and external references. Name related Autodesk tools such as Civil 3D if a posting asks for them. If you hold an Autodesk certification, give its level and year: Autodesk offers User, Associate, Professional and Expert tiers, and each stays valid for two or three years depending on the certification.
How should a surveying resume show the climb from assistant to licensed surveyor?
Let the bullets grow with each title. Land Surveyor Assistant: the instruments you set up, such as a robotic total station or GNSS receiver, plus staking, traverses and field notes. Then the exams, each with its date: NCEES calls the FS exam generally the first step toward licensure, and most states also want four years of verifiable experience, the PS exam and a state-specific exam. An in-training certificate belongs here too if your state issued one. Senior Land Surveyor: each license and the state that issued it, plus the boundary or topographic surveys you signed.
