How to write your business services resume

Business services firms do support work for other organizations, so show whose work you handled and the service levels you met. Name the client industries you supported, as far as confidentiality allows, the channels you covered (phone, chat, email) and the systems you worked in, such as a CRM, ticketing queue or document control tool.

Credentials depend on your track. Front-line support roles typically train on the job, though the BLS notes that representatives who give finance or insurance information may need a state license. Interpreters should list each language pair and certification: most states require certification for court interpreters, and medical interpreters may hold CoreCHI or CHI from the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters or CMI from the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters. Governance, risk and compliance consultants who audit IT systems may list ISACA's Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) credential.

Quantify what client contracts measure: first-contact resolution, handle time, satisfaction scores, service-level targets hit and document turnaround. Short contracts or staffing-agency placements read better grouped under the agency's name. For example: "Resolved 78% of billing chats on first contact while handling three sessions at once for a telecom client."

  • How do I list contract work or independent contractor jobs on a resume?

Make your business the employer line: its name, or "Independent Contractor" if you didn't form a company, with the whole span of dates. Underneath, name three or four clients you can mention publicly, each with the work and one result, rather than one entry per gig. Show how you ran the work, too. Under the IRS's general rule, you're an independent contractor when the client has the right to direct the result but not what is done or how, so bullets about scoping, pricing and choosing your methods fit the title. For assignments that came through a staffing agency, compare the Temp examples.

  • How do I describe customer service on a resume?

Replace the phrase with proof. Say who your customers were, such as shoppers, patients or small businesses, the channel you served them on and how many contacts a typical shift brought. Then pick moments that show the skill: calming an angry caller, explaining a bill in plain words, or fixing a process so the same complaint stopped coming in. In the skills list, name abilities a manager can test, like de-escalation, order lookups in a named customer relationship management (CRM) tool or support in a second language, not "people person." If you took the cases others couldn't close, see the Escalation Specialist examples.

  • How do I put bilingual on my resume?

Name each language with a level someone can check, instead of the word bilingual by itself. If you've been formally tested, use the test's own scale; the U.S. government's Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) scale, for one, describes levels from 0 to 5, with plus levels between them, and a level is assigned through an authorized language exam. Without a test, describe use: "Handled 30 Spanish-language billing calls a shift" or "Translated product notices into Korean." Remember that speaking two languages differs from interpreting, a trained skill with its own modes and certifications; if interpreting is your work, compare the Interpreter examples.

  • How do I list remote work on a resume?

Write Remote in the location slot, adding the company's city or your time zone when the team spans several, so the arrangement is clear right away. Then show what working alone asked of you: your schedule adherence, the tools you used to stay in touch, and how you worked a call or chat queue without a supervisor nearby. If the job needed a home setup, such as a wired connection, a quiet room or company equipment, one line confirming you have it can head off a screening question. Support agents can compare the Work From Home Agent and Virtual Customer Service Representative examples.
